I was not disappointed with taking my mother out for dinner. Omg the pickles, so good. We shared the smoked tuna dip, celery salad, she got the halibut cheeks, I got the duck with dirty rice, and bread pudding. All of it was amazing. The cocktails were lovely. Service was a beautiful flow of people genuinely glad to see us. Highly recommend this place, though reservations are recommended in advance as their bar area is not big for walk-ins.

We celebrated my birthday at Hattaway's and had such a fantastic evening on the patio. The vibes were chill with a relaxed volume on the stereo.
The food and drinks were delicious. I was pleased with the spirits offered and every plate was high quality. We got generous tuna crackers for an app, my beau had the steelhead and I ordered the chicken and grits. Chef's kiss, it'd be dangerous for me to live nearby because I could eat that chicken every day. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding as well as the butterscotch pudding - both perfectly balanced and not too sweet.
The service was very friendly and unobtrusive. She gave us both some complimentary champagne to go with our desserts, on the house, for the birthday celebration. So nice!
We had a great time and highly recommend coming to Hattaway's while in Walla Walla.

We had dinner here on Saturday. It was a a medium size group. Maybe eight of us. We made a reservation in advance and they sent us in the private wine room. Our experience was wonderful. Our meal was wonderful. The time spent with the family was wonderful. The atmosphere was great. We were able to use the Bluetooth speaker provided in that room and provider on music and carry on a wonderful conversation. The rest of the establishment seemed rather loud. The experience we had could not have been had in the normal restaurant. We had a great time. Our food was delicious. The service was impeccable. We were very relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. Thank you to the staff.

We made our reservation online and indicated it was our anniversary. We arrived to find a card on our table signed by all of the restaurant staff. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The atmosphere is chill and relaxed. Don't miss the halibut cheeks if you go! At the end of the evening they brought out two complimentary flutes of champagne. 🥂

We had dinner here for the first time last night, and I can't wait to return! This restaurant had been on our "to try" list for quite a while, so we made it our first stop on the Walla Walla Restaurant Month 2025 tour. We opted for the Prix-Fixe menu (photo included). We brought our own bottle of wine, and the corkage fee was $25 per bottle. We had reservations, and upon arrival, we were promptly welcomed and seated. The service was friendly, attentive, and detail-oriented.
Each course was beautifully plated and full of flavor.
For appetizers, we shared the Roasted Duck Spring Rolls and the Deviled Eggs—both were fantastic. For our main courses, we had the Chili Braised Pork Shank and the Smoked Steelhead Fettuccine. I loved the meat from the steelhead belly, and the portion of pasta was generous! The Bananas Foster-inspired dessert was the perfect ending to the meal, and the meringue crisps were unique—everything came together perfectly.
The entire menu is creative and full of tempting options, and I’m definitely looking forward to coming back soon!

Huge fan of Hattaway's on Alder, especially as someone who is gluten free. Service from the moment we walked in the door was amazing. Extremely friendly and attentive staff, while also knowledgeable about the menu. The crispy rice & tallow blackened tuna, celery parmesan salad, and clams & sausage would bring me back on another visit to Walla Walla. Parking right outside is easily accessible. I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu here. Such a special restaurant and experience.

Came for my birthday dinner and (as always) was completely blown away by how delicious the food was, as well as how wonderful the service was! Libby was our server, and she was great!
We had pimento cheese, and it was delicious and a large serving. I ordered the tri tip gratin, and my partner ordered the scallops. We split the broccoli. Everything was absolutely scrumptious, and we cleared our plates. I tried their seasonal "them apples" drink, which is a twist on a Gimlet. My new favorite! The chocolate torte was a great way to end the meal.
100% recomend!

In a town known for its fine wines and small-town charm, Hattaway's on Alder brings something unexpected — a taste of the South polished with Northwest finesse. Tucked just off Walla Walla's main drag, the restaurant hums with the low, steady confidence of a kitchen that knows exactly who it is and what it wants to say.
The evening begins with a plate of Frog Hollow tomato salad, a vibrant ode to late summer - thick slices of sun-warmed heirloom tomatoes glistening with olive oil, finished with just enough salt and herbs to let their natural sweetness sing. Alongside, the sweet corn beignets arrive like little golden clouds, crisp on the outside and tender within, served with a touch of honey butter that walks the line between indulgent and irresistible.
Salads here are far from an afterthought.
The celery Parmesan salad is a masterclass in restraint - cool, crisp ribbons of celery tossed with shards of nutty cheese and a whisper of lemon, refreshing the palate between bites.
For mains, the pan-seared halibut cheeks prove why this humble cut deserves star billing. Delicately caramelized, the fish yields to the fork with buttery softness, resting on a bed of seasonal vegetables that taste as though they were harvested that morning. The chicken & grits, meanwhile, is Southern comfort at its most elevated - perfectly fried chicken paired with creamy, stone-ground grits that soak up a savory jus with soulful abandon.
And just when you think you can't manage another bite, dessert arrives: the Deschutes Black Butte Porter bread pudding. Dense, dark, and lush with malty richness, it's the kind of sweet ending that makes you linger long after the plates have been cleared — a quiet, contemplative finish to a meal that feels deeply rooted yet refreshingly modern.
At Hattaway's, hospitality isn't just a gesture; it's a rhythm — one that invites you to slow down, savor, and be reminded that good food, when made with heart, always tells a story.

A favorite dinner spot while in Walla Walla.
Lured by the promise of southern inspired food, we made a reservation for a midweek dinner.
From arrival, service was smooth and easy. We sat on the patio with our pup (who was graciously offered a bowl of water) and the evening was off to a good start. For apps, we started with the shrimp toast. It was amazing - probably the favorite plate we had.
For entrees, we tried the halibut cheeks (4 out of 5) and the pork noodles (3.7 out of 5). From previous reviews, our expectations were too high. Don’t get me wrong, dishes were good, but they weren’t quite great.
Then dessert- the porter bread pudding. As good as the app! So our meal started and ended on top.
We’ll come back for sure, but maybe with different entrees.
